Greenwood & Boundary morning check: smoke warning continues, one new nearby wildfire point appears, and council meets tonight
Monday’s official-source pull keeps smoke and council on the front page. The DriveBC / Environment Canada regional feed still shows an orange air-quality warning for both Grand Forks and Rock Creek. The forecast calls for widespread smoke today, tonight and Tuesday, with southwest wind gusting to 40 km/h early this afternoon and highs near 30 C today and 29 C Tuesday.
The DriveBC / BC Wildfire map feed also changed in two ways close enough to keep watching: N61319 remains the closest Out of Control point found in the under-90 km pull, about 41.7 km from Greenwood, and its listed size increased from 29.69 ha Sunday to 50 ha this morning. A new small Out of Control point, N61520, appeared about 44.7 km from Greenwood and is listed at 0.009 ha, reported August 10. Neither of those checked entries was marked wildfire of note in the API response.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the DriveBC emergency-alert API or the EmergencyInfoBC text pull this morning. EmergencyInfoBC continued to list wildfire emergency material elsewhere in B.C.; that is regional context, not a Greenwood, Midway, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Christina Lake or Boundary evacuation notice.
What changed since Sunday
- Weather: the warning object remains ORANGE WARNING - AIR QUALITY for Grand Forks and Rock Creek. The practical reader message remains widespread smoke, gusty southwest wind and high UV.
- Wildfire map: N61319 stayed Out of Control and grew in the map feed from 29.69 ha to 50 ha. N61520 appeared in the under-90 km pull as a new, very small Out of Control entry. N61201 remains Being Held.
- Emergency notices: the DriveBC emergency-alert API returned an empty list. The EmergencyInfoBC homepage text pull did not surface a local Boundary-region evacuation item.
- City source access: the City of Greenwood website loaded again in automated checks after Sunday’s DNS/source-access failure. The public pages still show Stage 2 water restrictions and the all-open-burning prohibition banner.
- City Hall: eSCRIBE still shows a Regular Council Meeting for Monday, August 10 at 7 p.m. in Council Chamber, with agenda, full-package PDF and full-package HTML links posted.
Roads, fire rules, water and city desk
- Local roads: Spraggett Road work remains listed for August 13-18 between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West. Highway 3 utility work begins today about 23 km from Greenwood and is listed through September 18 with single-lane alternating traffic, traffic control and a 60 km/h speed restriction.
- Regional road context: the Highway 97 wildfire closure near Peachland remains in the broader DriveBC pull about 86 km from Greenwood. It is not a Highway 3 / Greenwood-local closure, but it may affect Okanagan travel planning and smoke context.
- Fire rules: the City’s public alert still lists all open burning prohibited, including campfires of any size, Category 2 and 3 open fires, burn barrels and cages, fireworks, sky lanterns and other listed items. The B.C. Southeast Fire Centre restrictions page also loaded.
- Water: the City pages still show Stage 2 watering rules: even-numbered addresses on Tuesdays and Saturdays, odd-numbered addresses on Wednesdays and Sundays, automatic sprinklers midnight to 6 a.m., and manual sprinklers/outside taps midnight to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight.
