Greenwood & Boundary morning check: smoke warning continues as one nearby fire improves and Highway 3 adds west-side wildfire travel caution
Tuesday’s official-source pull keeps smoke at the top of the public-safety list, but the nearest new wildfire-map change is partly encouraging. The DriveBC / Environment Canada regional feed still shows an orange air-quality warning for both Grand Forks and Rock Creek. The forecast calls for widespread smoke today and tonight, northwest wind near 20 km/h, a high near 29 C, and then a Wednesday forecast with a 60 percent chance of showers, thunderstorm risk and local smoke.
The DriveBC / BC Wildfire map feed shows N61319 still as the closest Out of Control point found in the under-90 km pull, about 41.7 km from Greenwood and still listed at 50 ha. N61520, which appeared Monday as a very small Out of Control point, is now listed as Being Held at about 44.0 km from Greenwood and 0.3 ha. A farther entry, K51522, appeared about 71.7 km away as Out of Control at 1.1 ha. None of the nearest checked entries was marked wildfire of note in the API response.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the DriveBC emergency-alert API or the EmergencyInfoBC text pull this morning. EmergencyInfoBC continued to list wildfire emergency material elsewhere in B.C.; that remains regional context, not a Greenwood, Midway, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Christina Lake or Boundary evacuation notice.
What changed since Monday
- Weather: the warning object remains ORANGE WARNING - AIR QUALITY for Grand Forks and Rock Creek. The practical reader message is still widespread smoke today and tonight, with local smoke and possible showers/thunderstorms in Wednesday’s forecast.
- Wildfire map: N61319 stayed Out of Control at 50 ha. N61520 improved from Out of Control to Being Held in the map feed and is now listed at 0.3 ha. K51522 appeared farther away in the under-90 km pull as an Out of Control entry at 1.1 ha. N61222 and N61170 were no longer returned in this under-90 km set; treat that as a map-feed change unless confirmed by incident notes.
- Emergency notices: the DriveBC emergency-alert API returned an empty list. The EmergencyInfoBC homepage text pull did not surface a local Boundary-region evacuation item.
- City source access: City of Greenwood public pages returned 200 in automated checks. Stage 2 water restrictions and the all-open-burning prohibition remain visible in the page extracts.
- Council record: the August 10 meeting is now marked passed in the eSCRIBE calendar, but the latest pull did not show minutes or a recording yet. The next listed council date is September 8, with a Committee of the Whole at 5 p.m. and a Regular Council Meeting at 7 p.m.; neither had an agenda posted in this morning’s pull.
Roads, fire rules, water and city desk
- Local roads: Spraggett Road work remains listed for August 13-18 between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West. Highway 3 utility work about 23 km from Greenwood remains listed through September 18 with single-lane alternating traffic, traffic control and a 60 km/h speed restriction.
- Regional road context: the Highway 97 wildfire closure near Peachland remains in the broader DriveBC pull about 86 km from Greenwood. A newer Highway 3 wildfire traffic item in Manning Park appears much farther west, about 163 km from Greenwood, with reduced speed and no-stopping wildfire-zone wording. These are travel/smoke context items, not Greenwood-local Highway 3 closures or Boundary evacuation notices.
- Fire rules: the City’s public alert still lists all open burning prohibited, including campfires of any size, Category 2 and 3 open fires, burn barrels and cages, fireworks, sky lanterns and other listed items. The B.C. Southeast Fire Centre restrictions page also loaded.
- Water: the City pages still show Stage 2 watering rules: even-numbered addresses on Tuesdays and Saturdays, odd-numbered addresses on Wednesdays and Sundays, automatic sprinklers midnight to 6 a.m., and manual sprinklers/outside taps midnight to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight.
- City Hall: do not report August 10 council outcomes until minutes, a recording or named/official confirmation exists. Reader-service follow-up should focus on which agenda items need plain-language explanation: asset management, FireSmart, OCP/zoning bylaws, Elect Respect, privacy policy and the pigeon-release bylaw correspondence.
Community follow-up desk
The Greenwood fire-department leadership question remains an unconfirmed community question. This run did not find official-source text suitable for confirmed reporting. Ledge should keep asking careful questions, but should not state resignation or leadership-change claims as fact until a named source, council record, department statement or official notice confirms details.
