Greenwood & Boundary morning check: yellow smoke warning continues, a new small map fire appears, and Spraggett Road stays closed
Friday’s official-source pull keeps the smoke and road desks active, but does not show a local evacuation notice. Grand Forks and Rock Creek remain under yellow air-quality warnings. Today’s forecast drops the explicit “local smoke this morning” wording seen Thursday, but it still calls for a 30 percent chance of showers this afternoon and a risk of thunderstorms; Saturday’s forecast adds hazy conditions late in the morning and afternoon.
The practical road item remains Spraggett Road. DriveBC still lists utility work closing Spraggett Road between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West until September 30. The Highway 3 utility-work item west of the Highway 3 / Highway 33 junction also remains active with single-lane alternating traffic and a 60 km/h speed restriction.
On the DriveBC / BC Wildfire map feed, N61319 remains the closest out-of-control point found in the pull, about 41.7 km from Greenwood and listed at 50 ha. A new small map entry, N51590, appeared about 62.3 km from Greenwood, reported August 13, listed at 0.1 ha and marked Being Held. N61520, which was Under Control in Thursday’s under-100 km pull, was no longer returned in this morning’s pull. The Bald Range / K51490 wildfire-of-note entry remains near the edge of the expanded 100 km context pull; its listed size increased from 18,450 ha to 19,149 ha. That is regional smoke/travel context, not a Greenwood evacuation notice.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the DriveBC emergency-alert API or the EmergencyInfoBC text pull this morning.
What changed since Thursday’s pull
- Weather: the warning object stayed YELLOW WARNING - AIR QUALITY for Grand Forks and Rock Creek. The forecast is less smoke-explicit today, but Saturday adds haze and the warning remains active.
- Wildfire map: N51590 appeared as a small Being Held map entry about 62.3 km away. N61319 stayed Out of Control at 50 ha. N61520 disappeared from the under-100 km set after being Under Control on Thursday. Bald Range / K51490 remains a wildfire of note near 100 km and increased in listed size.

- Regional travel context: Highway 97 near Peachland is now shown as open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for through traffic with restrictions; that is not a Highway 3 / Greenwood-local closure.

- Water: Stage 2 watering rules remain visible on City pages: even-numbered addresses on Tuesdays and Saturdays, odd-numbered addresses on Wednesdays and Sundays, automatic sprinklers midnight to 6 a.m., and manual sprinklers/outside taps midnight to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight.
- City Hall: do not report August 10 council outcomes until minutes, a recording or named/official confirmation exists.
