Greenwood & Boundary morning check: smoke warning clears, local smoke remains, and Spraggett Road stays closed
Saturday’s official-source pull brings a useful improvement: the Grand Forks and Rock Creek warning fields were clear in the DriveBC / Environment Canada regional feed after Friday’s yellow air-quality warning. That does not mean the smoke watch is over. The same forecast still calls for haze late this morning and this afternoon, a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorm risk today, local smoke tonight, and local smoke again in Sunday’s forecast.
The nearest practical road item is unchanged. DriveBC continues to list Spraggett Road closed between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West for utility work until September 30. Highway 3 utility work west of the Highway 3 / Highway 33 junction remains active with single-lane alternating traffic and a 60 km/h speed restriction.
The wildfire-map pull is mostly a monitor item, not an alarm item. N61319 remains the closest out-of-control point found, about 41.7 km from Greenwood and listed at 50 ha. N51590, which appeared Friday as a small Being Held map entry about 62 km away, is now marked Under Control at 0.14 ha. N51257 near the edge of the 100 km context pull moved from Out of Control to Being Held. The Bald Range / K51490 wildfire-of-note entry that sat near 100 km Friday was no longer returned in this morning’s under-100 km pull. No checked wildfire-map record is an evacuation notice by itself.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the DriveBC emergency-alert API or the EmergencyInfoBC text pull this morning.
What changed since Friday’s pull
- Weather: Grand Forks and Rock Creek changed from Friday’s YELLOW WARNING - AIR QUALITY object to no active warning object in the morning regional feed. Haze, thunderstorm risk and local smoke remain in the forecast, so this is an improvement, not an all-clear for air conditions.
- Wildfire map: N51590 moved from Being Held to Under Control, with the listed size changing from 0.1 ha to 0.14 ha. N51257 moved from Out of Control to Being Held near the edge of the 100 km context pull. N61319 stayed Out of Control at 50 ha. K51490 / Bald Range was no longer returned inside the under-100 km set.
- Roads: Spraggett Road remains the closest high-impact DriveBC item, listed closed for utility work between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West. Highway 3 utility work west of the Highway 3 / Highway 33 junction continues.
- Emergency notices: the DriveBC emergency-alert API returned an empty list. EmergencyInfoBC did not surface a local Boundary-region evacuation item in the text pull.
- City source access: City of Greenwood public pages returned 200 in automated checks. Stage 2 water restrictions and the all-open-burning prohibition remain visible in page extracts.
- Council record: the eSCRIBE browser calendar still showed the August 10 regular meeting with agenda and agenda-package links only. No minutes or recording were visible in the browser snapshot or latest local monitor file. The next listed council date remains September 8.
Roads, fire rules, water and City Hall
- Spraggett Road: DriveBC lists the road closed for utility work until September 30 between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West.
- Highway 3: utility work about 23 km from Greenwood remains listed through September 18, with single-lane alternating traffic, traffic control and a 60 km/h speed restriction.
- Fire rules: the City alert still lists all open burning prohibited, including campfires of any size, Category 2 and 3 open fires, burn barrels and cages, fireworks, sky lanterns and other listed items. The Southeast Fire Centre restrictions page loaded for regional context.
- Water: Stage 2 watering rules remain visible on City pages: even-numbered addresses on Tuesdays and Saturdays, odd-numbered addresses on Wednesdays and Sundays, automatic sprinklers midnight to 6 a.m., and manual sprinklers/outside taps midnight to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight.
- City Hall: do not report August 10 council outcomes until minutes, a recording or named/official confirmation exists. The next council calendar entries in the local monitor are September 8 Committee of the Whole at 5 p.m. and Regular Council Meeting at 7 p.m., with no agenda posted in that monitor file.
Community desk
Greenwood Public Library, Greenwood Museum, Greenwood Elementary and SD51 public websites loaded during the check. The current useful community angle is still participation: library activities, school volunteer needs, youth projects, museum/heritage items, Legion notes and local group photos should be sent with names, dates and permission to publish.
The Greenwood fire-department leadership question remains an unconfirmed community question. This run did not find official-source text suitable for confirmed reporting. Ledge should keep asking careful questions, but should not state resignation or leadership-change claims as fact until a named source, council record, department statement or official notice confirms details.
Facebook group/page checks remain limited and lead-only in automated public checks. Community posts remain leads only unless a public post is readable and independently confirmed by an official or named source.
