Greenwood & Boundary morning check: yellow smoke warning returns while a new tiny nearby fire is being held
Sunday’s official-source pull puts smoke back in the lead. Grand Forks and Rock Creek now show a renewed YELLOW WARNING - AIR QUALITY object in the DriveBC / Environment Canada regional feed, issued Sunday morning UTC. Both locations also call for local smoke today, a 30 percent chance of late-afternoon showers and a risk of thunderstorms, with UV index 6 or high.
The newest nearby wildfire-map change is N61645, reported August 15 and now listed about 19 km from Greenwood at 0.01 ha and Being Held. That is a close map point, but the official status is not Out of Control and the map record is not an evacuation notice. The larger N61319 entry remains the nearest Out of Control point found in the 105 km context pull, about 41.9 km from Greenwood and still listed at 50 ha.
The nearest practical road item remains Spraggett Road. DriveBC continues to list it closed between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West for utility work until September 30. Highway 3 utility work about 23 km from Greenwood remains active with single-lane alternating traffic and a 60 km/h speed restriction.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the DriveBC emergency-alert API or the EmergencyInfoBC text pull this morning.
What changed since Saturday’s pull
- Wildfire map: N61645 is now the closest checked map point, about 19 km from Greenwood, reported August 15, listed at 0.01 ha and Being Held. N61319 remains Out of Control at 50 ha about 41.9 km away. Bald Range / K51490 is again present near the edge of the 100 km context range, listed Out of Control and far enough away that it belongs in regional context, not local alarm wording.
- Weather: Grand Forks and Rock Creek changed from Saturday’s clear warning field back to YELLOW WARNING - AIR QUALITY in the morning regional feed. Today’s forecast also includes local smoke, late-afternoon shower chances, thunderstorm risk, highs near 29 C and UV index 6 or high.
- Roads: Spraggett Road remains closed for utility work. Highway 3 utility work west of the Highway 3 / Highway 33 junction remains listed through September 18.

- Spraggett Road: DriveBC lists the road closed for utility work until September 30 between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West.

- Fire rules: the City alert still lists all open burning prohibited, including campfires of any size, Category 2 and 3 open fires, burn barrels and cages, fireworks, sky lanterns and other listed items. The City notice says the prohibition remains in effect until noon on October 31, 2026, or until rescinded.
