Greenwood & Boundary morning check: local smoke, gusty wind and new nearby fire-map points need watching
Thursday’s official-source pull keeps the Greenwood front page in watch mode rather than all-clear mode. Grand Forks and Rock Creek still showed no active warning object, but both local forecast records call for local smoke, a 40 percent chance of showers this afternoon, a thunderstorm risk, and southwest wind gusting to 50 km/h. Tonight’s forecast keeps local smoke and an early-evening shower/thunderstorm chance before clearing.
The closest new wildfire-map item is N62026, reported August 27 and listed Being Held at 1.73 ha about 25.2 km from Greenwood. A second new August 27 record, N62012, appeared about 28.9 km away and was already listed Under Control at 0.009 ha. These are official map-layer records to watch; they are not evacuation instructions by themselves.
There was also improvement in yesterday’s main watch point. N61952, about 38.6 km from Greenwood, changed from Out of Control to Being Held while staying listed at 0.9 ha. Farther out, N51972 moved from Out of Control to Being Held, N51955 moved to Under Control, and N51917 moved to Under Control. The continuing closer Out of Control records in this pull were N61319 and N61846, both about 41.7 km away, plus farther points beyond 50 km.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the DriveBC emergency-alert API or the EmergencyInfoBC text pull this morning. The road picture remains mostly steady: Spraggett Road remains the nearest closure in the pull, Highway 3 utility work about 23 km from Greenwood remains active, and a one-day Keremeos Bypass paving item appeared about 84.6 km away.

- Fire rules: the City alert still lists all open burning prohibited, including campfires of any size, Category 2 and 3 open fires, burn barrels and cages, fireworks, sky lanterns and other listed items. The City notice says the prohibition remains in effect until noon on October 31, 2026, or until rescinded.
- Water: Stage 2 watering rules remain visible on City pages: even-numbered addresses on Tuesdays and Saturdays, odd-numbered addresses on Wednesdays and Sundays, automatic sprinklers midnight to 6 a.m., and manual sprinklers/outside taps midnight to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight.
