Greenwood & Boundary morning check: air-quality warning returns; smoke persists while closer fire-map points improve
Friday’s official-source pull puts Greenwood and the Boundary back under a clearer smoke headline. Grand Forks and Rock Creek now show a YELLOW WARNING - AIR QUALITY object, and both local forecasts call for widespread smoke today and tonight. Saturday’s forecast keeps widespread smoke, adds a 60 percent shower chance, a thunderstorm risk and southwest gusts to 40 km/h in the afternoon.
The wildfire-map picture is mixed but less urgent close to Greenwood than it looked yesterday. N62026, about 25.2 km from Greenwood, changed from Being Held to Under Control. N61952, about 38.6 km away, also changed from Being Held to Under Control. N51997 and N51972 farther out moved to Under Control as well.
That is not an all-clear. The official map pull still lists N61319 and N61846 as Out of Control about 41.7 km from Greenwood, with other Out of Control records farther away, including N51991, N51996, N52085, N51938/Ezra Creek, N52075, N52053 and N52066. These are map-layer monitoring records only; they are not evacuation instructions by themselves.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the DriveBC emergency-alert API or the EmergencyInfoBC text pull this morning. The local road picture stayed steady: Spraggett Road remains the nearest listed closure, and Highway 3 utility work about 23 km from Greenwood remains active. Yesterday’s one-day Keremeos Bypass paving item is no longer in the current pull.
What changed since yesterday’s pull
- Weather: Grand Forks and Rock Creek changed from no active warning object to Yellow Air Quality warning, with widespread smoke in the official forecast.
- Closer fire-map improvement: N62026 is now Under Control at about 25.2 km from Greenwood after being listed Being Held yesterday.
- Another improvement: N61952 is now Under Control at about 38.6 km from Greenwood.
- Farther improvements: N51997 and N51972 changed to Under Control; N51996 stayed Out of Control but increased from 0.009 ha to 0.3 ha in the pull.
- New farther map points: N52085 appeared about 80.7 km away, N52075 about 87.2 km, N52053 about 93.1 km and N52066 about 97.6 km, all listed Out of Control. These are regional context, not a local evacuation notice.
- Nearest continuing Out of Control records: N61319 and N61846 remain listed about 41.7 km away.
- Emergency notices: the DriveBC emergency-alert API returned an empty list. EmergencyInfoBC did not surface a local Boundary-region evacuation item in the text pull.
- Roads: Spraggett Road and the Highway 3 utility-work item remain the closest road items; no new under-100-km road item appeared against yesterday’s raw pull.
- City source access: City of Greenwood public pages returned 200. Stage 2 water restrictions and the all-open-burning prohibition remain visible in page extracts.
- Council record: the browser-visible eSCRIBE August calendar still showed the August 10 Regular Council Meeting with agenda and full-package links but no minutes link. The September 8 Committee of the Whole and Regular Council meetings are visible; the September 8 Regular Council popup showed no meeting-documents text in this check.
Roads, fire rules, water and City Hall
- Spraggett Road: DriveBC still lists utility-work closure between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West until September 30.
- Highway 3: utility work about 23 km from Greenwood remains listed through September 18, with single-lane alternating traffic, traffic control and a 60 km/h speed restriction.
- Fire rules: the City alert still lists all open burning prohibited, including campfires of any size, Category 2 and 3 open fires, burn barrels and cages, fireworks, sky lanterns and other listed items. The City notice says the prohibition remains in effect until noon on October 31, 2026, or until rescinded.
- Water: Stage 2 watering rules remain visible on City pages: even-numbered addresses on Tuesdays and Saturdays, odd-numbered addresses on Wednesdays and Sundays, automatic sprinklers midnight to 6 a.m., and manual sprinklers/outside taps midnight to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight.
- City Hall: no new official meeting-outcome record was confirmed. Ledge should not report outcomes from the August 10 meeting until minutes, a recording, a council package update or named/official confirmation is available.
Community desk
Greenwood Museum, Greenwood Public Library, Greenwood Elementary and SD51 public websites loaded during the check. Greenwood Elementary’s public page continues to ask for volunteer help with one-to-one reading, field trips, hot lunch, breakfast/snack prep, sports, arts and school functions. That remains a strong community-story lead if a named school, PAC, parent or volunteer contact can confirm current needs and provide publishable photos or details.
The Greenwood fire-department leadership question remains an unconfirmed community question. This run did not find official-source text suitable for confirmed reporting. Ledge should keep asking careful questions, but should not state resignation or leadership-change claims as fact until a named source, council record, department statement or official notice confirms details.
