Greenwood & Boundary morning check: air-quality warning returns as nearby wildfire map improves and one close fire grows
Thursday’s official-source pull brings the smoke lead back above the fold. Grand Forks and Rock Creek now show a yellow air-quality warning in the DriveBC regional weather feed, with widespread smoke forecast today, tonight and Friday. The Friday forecast also adds southwest wind gusting to 40 km/h in the afternoon, with a high near 37 C.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the DriveBC emergency-alert API or the EmergencyInfoBC text pull this morning. Nearby wildfire records below are map-layer monitoring points; they are not evacuation notices and should not be treated as instructions by themselves.
What changed since Wednesday
- Weather: the warning field changed from no active warning object to YELLOW WARNING - AIR QUALITY for both Grand Forks and Rock Creek. Both local forecasts call for widespread smoke today and tonight, widespread smoke Friday, and hot afternoon highs near 35 C today and 37 C Friday.
- Closest out-of-control map point: N61319 remains the closest Out of Control wildfire-map entry found, about 41.6 km from Greenwood. Its listed size changed from 10.4 ha Wednesday morning to 29.69 ha in this morning’s API pull. It is still not marked as a wildfire of note in the API response.
- Status improvements: N61387 changed from Being Held to Under Control about 52.8 km away, and N61201 changed from Out of Control to Being Held about 67.8 km away. N61222, N61170, N61304 and N51161 remain Under Control in the under-90 km set.
- Map-feed caution: N61413 and N51353 were no longer returned in this morning’s under-90 km pull. Treat absent map entries as map-feed/status changes unless a specific BC Wildfire incident note confirms more.
- Emergency notices: the DriveBC emergency-alert API returned an empty list. EmergencyInfoBC listed current wildfire emergency information elsewhere in B.C.; the morning text pull did not find Greenwood, Midway, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Christina Lake or Boundary in a local evacuation notice.
Roads, fire rules, water and city desk
- Roads: DriveBC’s feed now shows a Spraggett Road item for August 13-18, with work happening between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West and a road closure planned. The previous Carson/Almond item appears to have been replaced by this newer feed item.
- Highway watch: DriveBC now shows a Highway 3 utility-work item about 23 km from Greenwood starting August 10 and running to September 18, with single-lane alternating traffic and a 60 km/h speed restriction. This appears to replace the two Beadman/Wagon Wheel feed items from Wednesday’s pull.
- Additional road context: the Rossland / Highway 3B work, Highway 22 Junction West to Highway 3 Junction West work, and Osoyoos / Nighthawk Road ditch-maintenance item remain in the relevant regional pull. No new Greenwood-local Highway 3 closure was verified.
- Fire rules: Greenwood’s all-open-burning prohibition remains posted. The B.C. Southeast Fire Centre restrictions page remains the controlling official regional page and was checked again this morning.
- Water: City of Greenwood Stage 2 water restrictions remain posted. Even-numbered addresses water Tuesdays and Saturdays; odd-numbered addresses water Wednesdays and Sundays, with the posted automatic-sprinkler and manual-watering windows still shown.
- City Hall and elections: City news still shows Stage 2 water restrictions, the all-open-burning notice and election material as the newest civic items found. The elections page remains active with advance elector registration before August 18 and General Voting Day October 17 at McArthur Centre. The call for casual election officials remains a practical follow-up item, with applications listed as open until August 28.
- Council record: the eSCRIBE browser calendar showed the next Regular Council Meeting for Monday, August 10 at 7 p.m. in Council Chamber. The meeting details popup did not expose agenda documents in this morning’s browser check.

Ledge should continue asking careful questions, but should not state resignation or leadership-change claims as fact until a named source, council record, department statement or official notice confirms details.
