Greenwood & Boundary morning check: hot forecast, Highway 3 work and fire-season notices
Ledge’s morning check found no province-wide EmergencyInfoBC item in the DriveBC emergency-alert feed for the Greenwood area, but there are still practical public-safety items residents should keep visible today: Stage 2 water restrictions remain posted by the City of Greenwood, the Category 3 open-fire prohibition remains posted for the Southeast Fire Centre including Greenwood, and official weather data shows a very hot Boundary forecast with thunderstorm risk.
Weather and heat
Environment Canada forecast data carried through DriveBC at 6:00 a.m. listed Grand Forks and Rock Creek at a forecast high of 37 C today, very high UV, southeast wind becoming 20 km/h gusting to 40, and a risk of thunderstorms. Osoyoos was listed under a yellow heat warning with a high near 34 C, 37 C near Osoyoos, and humidex values up to 38 near Osoyoos.
This is not a substitute for official alerts. Residents should check Environment Canada directly before making health, travel or work decisions, especially for vulnerable people, outdoor workers and anyone travelling toward Osoyoos or the wider Boundary/Okanagan corridor.
Roads
DriveBC’s event feed showed Highway 3 paving operations between Paulson Bridge and Paulson Cross Country Recsite, about 22 km east of Christina Lake to 30 km west of Castlegar, with single-lane alternating traffic during daytime work windows until July 30. Ledge did not find a current DriveBC closure inside Greenwood itself in the morning check.
Fire and emergency services
BC Wildfire Service map data showed multiple active wildfire records within roughly 220 km of Greenwood, with the closest returned record about 50 km away marked “Under Control.” The City of Greenwood alert still says Category 3 open fires are prohibited in the Southeast Fire Centre, including Greenwood. Ledge did not verify any new official evacuation notice for Greenwood in this morning check.
Community questions about Greenwood fire department leadership remain a developing lead only. Ledge has not verified an official resignation notice and will not state one as fact without official records or named confirmation. If there has been a leadership change, residents should know who is currently responsible, whether service coverage is affected and what support volunteers need.
City notices
The City of Greenwood website continues to show Stage 2 water restrictions. The public alert lists watering days by address number and says residents may not fill swimming pools, hot tubs, garden ponds or decorative fountains; wash vehicles using water; or wash driveways and sidewalks. Hand watering of trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetable gardens and other landscape plants remains permitted under the posted notice.
Community desk
Public Facebook groups remain difficult to inspect through automated checks and are treated as leads only. The Greenwood Museum public Facebook page was reachable, but Ledge needs direct links or named contacts for Legion, school, library, volunteer, business and community-event items that should be on the front page.
