Greenwood & Boundary morning check: smoke warning continues, nearby wildfire entries and Sunday road watch
Sunday’s official-source check found the Boundary air-quality warning still active and the DriveBC/BC Wildfire wildfire layer listing several recent wildfire entries within roughly 75 km of Greenwood. The closest entry in the morning pull, N60934, was listed about 12 km east of Greenwood and Under Control. A newer July 19 entry, N51038, was listed roughly 52 km from Greenwood and Out of Control. Ledge did not verify any Boundary evacuation notice from EmergencyInfoBC during this check.
What changed this morning
- Weather / smoke: DriveBC’s Environment Canada weather feed for Rock Creek and Grand Forks carried a yellow air-quality warning issued Sunday July 19 at 10:42 UTC, with the warning URL pointing to Environment Canada’s air-quality warning page. The morning forecast showed haze, a high near 32 C and a very high UV index.
- Wildfire map entries: The DriveBC wildfire layer showed N60934 roughly 12 km from Greenwood, reported July 17 and listed Under Control, plus N51038 roughly 52 km from Greenwood, reported July 19 and listed Out of Control. These are map-layer entries, not evacuation orders. Residents should use BC Wildfire Service, EmergencyInfoBC and RDKB notices for official incident and evacuation instructions.
- Road watch: DriveBC did not show a new Greenwood-local closure in the keyword pull. The regional Highway 3 item most relevant to Boundary travel remains paving between Paulson Bridge and the Paulson Cross Country Recsite, about 22 km east of Christina Lake to 30 km west of Castlegar, with single-lane alternating traffic listed until July 30.
Still posted: water and fire-season restrictions
The City of Greenwood still displayed its Stage 2 water restriction alert during the morning check. The alert lists even-numbered addresses for Tuesdays and Saturdays only, odd-numbered addresses for Wednesdays and Sundays only, automatic sprinklers from midnight to 6 a.m., and manual sprinklers/outside taps from midnight to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight. Hand watering of trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetable gardens and other landscape plants remains permitted in the City notice.
The City’s alert also links to the Southeast Fire Centre prohibition. Category 2 and Category 3 open fires remain prohibited in the Greenwood area; Category 1 campfires were not listed as prohibited on the City alert, but the City warns that conditions are dry and caution is important with any outdoor burning activity.
City Hall and community follow-up
The City of Greenwood news page still led with the July 18 election-officials job posting for the 2026 local government election. The posting lists advance voting on October 7, General Voting Day on October 17 and an August 28 application deadline.
Founders Day is now a follow-up file rather than a same-day notice. Ledge should collect organizer photos, attendance notes, volunteer credits, parade/road impacts and any smoke-related adjustments before writing a community wrap.
Community lead still requiring confirmation
The Greenwood fire-department leadership question remains a developing community lead only. Ledge is not stating unverified resignation or leadership-change claims as fact. The newsroom still needs official or named-source confirmation on who is responsible for operational leadership, whether coverage is affected, what council and staff know, and what support volunteers need.
