Greenwood & Boundary morning check: heat warning, local smoke and new nearby wildfire map entries
Tuesday’s official-source check found a real weather change for Greenwood and the Boundary: the DriveBC/Environment Canada regional feed listed a yellow heat warning for the Grand Forks and Rock Creek forecast areas, with local smoke in the forecast, highs near 37 C and a very high UV index.
The morning pull did not find a Boundary evacuation order or alert on EmergencyInfoBC, and the DriveBC emergency-alert API remained empty. However, the DriveBC/BC Wildfire map layer listed new nearby wildfire entries, including two July 20 entries roughly 35–37 km from Greenwood. Those map records should be watched carefully, but they are not evacuation notices by themselves.
Bottom line: Tuesday is a heat-and-smoke caution day. Keep cool, check on neighbours, watch official emergency channels, and treat nearby wildfire map entries as monitoring information unless BC Wildfire Service, EmergencyInfoBC, RDKB or the City issues instructions.
What changed since Monday
- Heat warning: the Grand Forks and Rock Creek regional weather records now carry a yellow heat warning issued Tuesday morning, with forecast highs near 37 C, local smoke and UV index 9 or very high.
- Wildfire map: the nearest DriveBC/BC Wildfire layer entries found this morning were N61072, about 34.9 km from Greenwood and marked Out of Control, and N61067, about 36.5 km away and marked Being Held. Both were reported July 20 and neither was marked as a wildfire of note in the DriveBC layer.
- Emergency notices: EmergencyInfoBC listed active emergencies elsewhere in B.C., but the morning text pull did not find a Boundary-region evacuation order or alert. DriveBC’s emergency-alert API returned an empty list.
Roads, city notices and fire rules
- Highway 3 / Paulson: DriveBC still lists paving between Paulson Bridge and Paulson Cross Country Recsite, about 46 km from Greenwood, with single-lane alternating traffic until July 30.
- Other regional road work: a Highway 3B construction item west of Trail and several Highway 3 items farther west remain on DriveBC; no Greenwood/Midway/Grand Forks closure was found in the morning proximity check.
- Greenwood water: City of Greenwood Stage 2 water restrictions remain posted, including even-numbered address watering Tuesdays/Saturdays and odd-numbered address watering Wednesdays/Sundays.
- Open fire restrictions: the City and Southeast Fire Centre pages continue to post Category 2 and Category 3 open-fire prohibitions for the area. The Southeast Fire Centre restrictions page showed a July 20 update.
- City Hall: the newest City news item remains the July 18 election-officials posting for the October local election schedule, with applications listed as open until August 28.
Community follow-up desk
Founders Day still needs a proper community wrap: organizer photos, volunteer names, business impacts, parade notes and any smoke/heat observations from people who were there.
The Greenwood fire-department leadership question remains a community lead only. The automated check could load the public Facebook shell for the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department, but no usable post text or official statement was exposed. Ledge should not state resignation or leadership-change claims as fact until a named source, council record, department statement or official notice confirms details.
