Greenwood & Boundary morning check: smoke warning and new nearby wildfire map entries
Saturday’s official-source check keeps smoke, wind and fire readiness at the top of the Greenwood front page. Environment Canada’s regional feed still shows a yellow air-quality warning for Grand Forks and Rock Creek, and the DriveBC / BC Wildfire map layer shows several newly reported nearby wildfire entries from July 24.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the EmergencyInfoBC text pull or the DriveBC emergency-alert API this morning. The nearby fire points should be treated as map-layer watch items, not evacuation notices.
What changed since Friday
- Weather: Grand Forks and Rock Creek still show a yellow air-quality warning, issued Saturday July 25 at 09:32 UTC in the regional feed. Today’s forecast says local smoke, a high near 33 C, UV index 8 or very high, and southwest wind 30 km/h gusting to 60 this afternoon, with a risk of late-afternoon thunderstorms.
- Wildfire map: the closest DriveBC / BC Wildfire entries found near Greenwood were N61147 about 27.1 km away, marked Being Held and reported July 24; N61150 about 35.5 km away, Under Control; N61067 about 36.6 km away, Under Control; N61179 about 36.8 km away, Being Held; N61148 about 45.1 km away, Under Control; N61160 about 46.3 km away, Out of Control; K51169 about 46.7 km away, Being Held; K51156 about 49.6 km away, Under Control; and N61181 about 52.0 km away, Out of Control. None of those closest entries were marked wildfire of note in the DriveBC layer.
- Emergency notices: the DriveBC emergency-alert API returned an empty list. EmergencyInfoBC listed active wildfire evacuation information elsewhere in B.C., including Thompson-Nicola, Cariboo, Fraser Valley, Lillooet and Kimberley-area items, but the morning text pull did not find Greenwood, Midway, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Christina Lake or Boundary.
Roads, water and city desk
- Highway 3 / Paulson: DriveBC still lists paving between Paulson Bridge and Paulson Cross Country Recsite, about 46 km from Greenwood, with single-lane alternating traffic until July 30.
- Other nearby roads: DriveBC also shows Highway 3B construction between Rossland and the Nancy Greene Summit area, Osoyoos-area Highway 3 ditching, and Trail bridge maintenance planned for July 28-29, but no Greenwood, Midway or Grand Forks closure was found in the proximity check.
- Fire rules: the City of Greenwood all-open-burning prohibition remains posted and in effect. The B.C. Southeast Fire Centre prohibitions page remains updated July 23 and continues to list campfires plus Category 2 and Category 3 open fires as prohibited.
- Water: City of Greenwood Stage 2 water restrictions remain posted. Even-numbered addresses water Tuesdays and Saturdays; odd-numbered addresses water Wednesdays and Sundays, with the posted automatic-sprinkler and manual-watering windows still shown.
- City Hall: City news added “Notice of Advance Elector Registration” above the July election-officials posting in the news listing. Council, staff and mayor pages loaded, but no new council-meeting headline was found by the automated text check.
