Greenwood & Boundary morning check: smoke warning continues; nearest wildfire map entries changed
Sunday’s official-source check keeps smoke, wind and wildfire-map monitoring at the top of the Greenwood front page. The Grand Forks and Rock Creek regional feed still shows a yellow air-quality warning, with local smoke, a high near 30 C, high UV and south wind gusting to 40 km/h expected today.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found in the EmergencyInfoBC text pull or the DriveBC emergency-alert API this morning. Nearby wildfire points should be treated as map-layer watch items, not evacuation notices or confirmed threats to Greenwood.
What changed since Saturday
- Weather: Grand Forks and Rock Creek still show a yellow air-quality warning, issued Sunday July 26 at 05:46 UTC in the regional feed. Today’s forecast says sunny with local smoke, a high near 30 C, UV index 7 or high, and south wind 20 km/h gusting to 40 near noon. Monday’s forecast also shows local smoke and very-high UV.
- Wildfire map: N61190, reported July 25, is now the closest DriveBC / BC Wildfire map entry found in the morning pull, about 22.7 km from Greenwood and marked Under Control. N61147, N61150, N61067 and N61179 were also under control in the 27-to-37 km range.
- Newer watch items: several entries reported July 25 or July 26 were still marked Out of Control in the map layer, including N61216 about 37.4 km away, N61218 about 45.7 km away, N61222 about 50.4 km away and N61201 about 64.0 km away. None of the nearest checked entries were marked wildfire of note.
- Status improvements: some entries that were more concerning in Saturday’s pull changed status by Sunday morning. N61147 and N61179 were marked Under Control, and N61181 was marked Being Held. N51130, which had been an out-of-control item earlier in the week, was marked Under Control in this pull.
- Emergency notices: the DriveBC emergency-alert API returned an empty list. EmergencyInfoBC listed active wildfire evacuation information elsewhere in B.C., including Cariboo, Central Okanagan, Thompson-Nicola, Squamish-Lillooet, Fraser Valley, Kitimat-Stikine and East Kootenay items, but the morning text pull did not find Greenwood, Midway, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Christina Lake or Boundary.
Roads, water and city desk
- Highway 3 / Paulson: DriveBC still lists paving between Paulson Bridge and Paulson Cross Country Recsite, about 46 km from Greenwood, with single-lane alternating traffic until July 30.
- Other nearby roads: the proximity check also found Highway 3B construction between Rossland and the Nancy Greene Summit area, Osoyoos-area Highway 3 ditching, Trail bridge maintenance planned for July 28-29, and a Highway 1 wildfire closure far outside the Boundary that points travellers to Highway 3 or Highway 5 as alternates.
- Fire rules: the City of Greenwood all-open-burning prohibition remains posted and in effect. The B.C. Southeast Fire Centre restrictions page remains updated July 23 and continues to list campfires plus Category 2 and Category 3 open fires as prohibited.
- Water: City of Greenwood Stage 2 water restrictions remain posted. Even-numbered addresses water Tuesdays and Saturdays; odd-numbered addresses water Wednesdays and Sundays, with the posted automatic-sprinkler and manual-watering windows still shown.
- City Hall and elections: City news still shows “Notice of Advance Elector Registration” dated July 24 above the election-officials posting. The City elections page says advance elector registration can be completed before August 18, 2026, and the City community calendar page showed no upcoming events in the automated text pull.

Ledge still needs a human Founders Day wrap: organizer photos, volunteer names, business impacts, parade notes, and heat/smoke observations from people who attended.
The Greenwood fire-department leadership question remains a community lead only. Automated checks could identify the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page shell, but did not expose reliable post text or an official statement suitable for confirmed reporting. Ledge should continue asking careful questions, but should not state resignation or leadership-change claims as fact until a named source, council record, department statement or official notice confirms details.
