Greenwood & Boundary morning check: smoke warning renewed; new nearby wildfire watch point appears
Thursday’s official-source pull keeps smoke, fire restrictions and wildfire-map monitoring at the top of the Greenwood front page. The Grand Forks and Rock Creek DriveBC/Environment Canada regional feed shows a yellow air-quality warning issued Thursday July 30 at 11:11 UTC. Today’s forecast says widespread smoke, a high near 30 C, UV index 7 or high, and southwest wind 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon.
No official Boundary-region evacuation order or alert was found on EmergencyInfoBC or in the DriveBC emergency-alert API this morning. Nearby wildfire records below are map-layer monitoring points; they are not evacuation notices and should not be treated as instructions by themselves.
What changed since Wednesday
- Weather: the air-quality warning remains active for Grand Forks and Rock Creek and was reissued Thursday morning UTC. Friday’s forecast also shows widespread smoke, a high near 31 C, very high UV, and southwest gusts to 40 near noon.
- New closest out-of-control watch point: N61319, reported July 29, appears in the DriveBC / BC Wildfire layer about 41.7 km from Greenwood and is marked Out of Control. It was not marked as a wildfire of note in the feed.
- Closest checked wildfire entries: the closest under-90 km records in this morning’s pull are N61067 about 36.6 km away, N61179 about 36.9 km away and N61216 about 37.1 km away; all three remain Under Control.
- Status improvements: N61218, which Wednesday’s brief listed as Out of Control about 45.6 km away, is now marked Under Control. K51313, a July 29 entry about 68.4 km away, is now marked Being Held rather than Out of Control.
- Continuing watch items: N61304 remains Out of Control about 55.7 km away. N51161 and N61201 are also marked Out of Control in the broader 60-68 km watch range. None of the nearest checked entries were marked wildfire of note in the DriveBC layer.
- Emergency notices: the DriveBC emergency-alert API returned an empty list. EmergencyInfoBC listed current wildfire evacuation information elsewhere in B.C.; the morning text pull did not find Greenwood, Midway, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Christina Lake or Boundary.
Roads, water and city desk
- Highway 3 / Paulson: DriveBC still lists paving between Paulson Bridge and Paulson Cross Country Recsite, about 46 km from Greenwood, with single-lane alternating traffic until Thursday July 30.
- Other regional roads: the relevant DriveBC pull also returned Highway 3 work in the Osoyoos / Nighthawk Road area and Highway 22 work between Highway 22 Junction West and Highway 3 Junction West. No new Greenwood-local Highway 3 closure was verified.
- Fire rules: the City of Greenwood all-open-burning prohibition remains posted and in effect. The B.C. Southeast Fire Centre restrictions page remains marked last updated July 28 and lists Category 1 campfires, Category 2 open fires and Category 3 open fires as prohibited, with additional restrictions on fireworks, burn barrels, sky lanterns and similar equipment.
