Greenwood morning check: cooler showers, fewer nearby fire-map points, and local fire rules still matter
Wednesday’s Greenwood and Boundary morning pull looks calmer than yesterday, but it is not an all-clear. Grand Forks and Rock Creek again showed no active weather-warning object in the DriveBC weather feed. Forecast text turned cooler and wetter: mainly cloudy, a few showers, risk of a thunderstorm this morning and early afternoon, haze this morning, east wind this afternoon and a high near 18 C.
The nearest DriveBC/BC Wildfire under-100-km set also shrank compared with Tuesday. Six small or under-control records that appeared in yesterday’s under-100-km pull were no longer returned this morning. Ezra Creek / N51938 stayed Being Held and its listed size changed from 157.4 ha to 120.6 ha. N61319 and N61846 remain Out of Control about 41.7 km from Greenwood; neither was marked as a wildfire of note in the pulled map data.
The reader-facing rule on burning has not changed in the City pages Ledge pulled this morning: Greenwood still shows Stage 2 water restrictions and an all-open-burning prohibition that includes campfires of any size. The provincial Southeast Fire Centre Category 1 campfire easing does not replace the local posted City rule inside Greenwood unless the City updates or rescinds its notice.
What changed since Tuesday’s pull
- Weather: Grand Forks and Rock Creek still showed no active warning object, but the forecast shifted from warmer haze and gusty east wind to cooler showers, morning haze and thunderstorm risk.
- Emergency notices: DriveBC’s emergency-alert API returned an empty list. The EmergencyInfoBC homepage showed current emergency pages elsewhere in B.C., but the text pull did not show Greenwood, Midway, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Christina Lake, Boundary or Kootenay Boundary evacuation items.
- Wildfire map set: N51907, N51997, N51991, N52075, N52135, N52053 from Tuesday’s under-100-km pull were no longer returned this morning. That is a map-feed change, not a public evacuation all-clear.
- Wildfire map size: N51938 / Ezra Creek stayed Being Held, with listed size changing from 157.4 ha to 120.6 ha.
- Continuing nearest watch: N61319 and N61846 remain Out of Control about 41.7 km away. These are official map-layer records, not evacuation instructions.
- Roads: no new under-100-km DriveBC road item appeared against Tuesday’s raw pull. Needles Ferry and Highway 6 smoke-visibility items that were in the comparison set were not returned in the current pull.
- Council record: the automated eSCRIBE calendar endpoint returned HTTP 500 again. Browser re-check was blocked by the local Chrome remote-debugging permission prompt in this unattended run, so no new meeting-document claim is made.
Roads, weather and fire map
- Spraggett Road remains the closest closure in the DriveBC pull: utility work between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West, listed until September 30.
- Highway 3 utility work about 23 km from Greenwood remains active through September 18, with single-lane alternating traffic, traffic control and a 60 km/h speed restriction. The listing says no work on Labour Day, September 4.
- Weather-sensitive residents should note the cooler day does not remove all risk: the forecast includes showers, morning haze and thunderstorm risk. Check current weather and air-quality sources before outdoor work or travel.
- Fire-map note: a shorter under-100-km pull and smaller listed size on one incident are encouraging, but nearby map records still need official-source monitoring.
City and election desk
- City of Greenwood pages loaded publicly and still showed Stage 2 water restrictions: even-numbered addresses Tuesdays and Saturdays; odd-numbered addresses Wednesdays and Sundays; automatic sprinklers midnight to 6 a.m.; manual sprinklers/outside taps midnight to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight.
- The City all-open-burning notice remains visible and includes campfires of any size, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires, burn barrels, fireworks, sky lanterns and similar devices.
- The Greenwood election page still lists the 2026 nomination period as September 1-11, advance voting October 7 and General Voting Day October 17. Ledge has not found an official accepted-candidate list in the public pull yet.
- The Public Works Equipment Operator/Maintenance Worker posting dated August 19 remains the newest City news item visible in the public news pull.
Community desk
Greenwood Museum, Greenwood Public Library, Greenwood Elementary and SD51 loaded publicly. The strongest non-City-Hall story lead remains a first-week-of-September community file: school volunteers, PAC needs, reading support, breakfast/lunch help, sports, arts, field trips, library programs, Museum/visitor-centre updates or named volunteers making things work.
The Greenwood fire-department leadership question remains unconfirmed. This run did not find official-source text suitable for confirmed reporting, and Facebook/group material remains lead-only unless readable and independently confirmed. Ledge should ask for a named source, council record, department statement or official notice before publishing any resignation or leadership-change claim as fact.
