Greenwood weekend check: closest fire-map records improve and Sept. 8 council agendas are posted
Saturday’s Greenwood and Boundary morning pull has two verified reader-useful changes: the three closest wildfire-map records returned within 100 km now show Under Control, and the City’s public eSCRIBE calendar now shows September 8 council agenda material.
Grand Forks and Rock Creek showed no active weather-warning object. The forecast still calls for a 40 percent chance of showers, a risk of a thunderstorm late this afternoon, and a 60 percent chance of showers tonight and Sunday afternoon.
On the wildfire map layer, N61319 and N61846, both about 41.7 km from Greenwood, changed from Being Held to Under Control. N51996, about 80.1 km away, also changed from Being Held to Under Control. Ezra Creek remains Being Held, and N51207 remains Under Control. N52140 was no longer returned in the current under-100-km pull; Ledge treats that as a feed-set change, not as proof of extinguishment.
That is official map-layer improvement, not an evacuation notice and not a local-rule change. Greenwood’s City pages still show Stage 2 water restrictions and the all-open-burning prohibition that includes campfires of any size.
What changed since Friday’s pull
- Wildfire map: N61319 and N61846, the two closest returned records, moved from Being Held to Under Control.
- Wildfire map: N51996 also moved from Being Held to Under Control; Ezra Creek remained Being Held, and N51207 remained Under Control.
- Weather: Grand Forks and Rock Creek again showed no active warning object. The forecast adds a thunderstorm risk late this afternoon and shower chances into Sunday.
- Roads: no new under-100-km DriveBC road item appeared against Friday’s comparison pull. Spraggett Road and Highway 3 utility work remain the closest relevant road items in the pull.
- Council: eSCRIBE now shows September 8 public agenda material for a 5 p.m. Committee of the Whole meeting and a 7 p.m. Regular Council meeting.
- Emergency notices: DriveBC’s emergency-alert API returned an empty list. The EmergencyInfoBC homepage did not show a Greenwood, Midway, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Christina Lake, Boundary or Kootenay Boundary evacuation item in the pulled text.
Roads, weather and fire map
- Spraggett Road remains the closest DriveBC closure in the pull: utility work between Carson Road and Almond Gardens Road West, listed until September 30.
- Highway 3 utility work about 23 km from Greenwood remains active through September 18, with single-lane alternating traffic, traffic control and a 60 km/h speed restriction.
- All current wildfire records returned within 100 km were either Being Held or Under Control. None was marked as a wildfire of note in the pulled DriveBC / BC Wildfire data.
- Readers should keep checking issuing agencies first. Map status, road advisories, local fire rules and emergency orders are separate layers.
City and election desk
- City of Greenwood public pages still show Stage 2 water restrictions: even-numbered addresses Tuesdays and Saturdays; odd-numbered addresses Wednesdays and Sundays; automatic sprinklers midnight to 6 a.m.; manual sprinklers/outside taps midnight to 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. to midnight.
- The City all-open-burning notice remains visible and includes campfires of any size, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires, burn barrels, fireworks, sky lanterns and similar devices.
- The City election page still lists the 2026 nomination period as September 1-11, campaign period beginning September 19, advance voting October 7 and General Voting Day October 17. Ledge has not found an official accepted-candidate list in the public pull yet.
- September 8 Committee of the Whole agenda items visible in eSCRIBE include a presentation from Doug Zorn of the Grand Forks ATV Club, a UBCM briefing package and an administrative report draft.
- September 8 Regular Council agenda items visible in eSCRIBE include adoption of August 10 minutes, rural-homeowner-grant correspondence, a Greenwood Heritage Society grant-in-aid request for $10,000, Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1049 fourth and final reading, and an in-camera item under Community Charter section 90(1)(e) for land/acquisition/disposition matters.
Community desk
Greenwood Elementary, SD51, the library and museum loaded publicly. The strongest community leads remain back-to-school volunteers, PAC helpers, reading support, breakfast/lunch support, sports and arts programs, library programming, Museum fall-hours and visitor-centre work, local heritage volunteers, and businesses helping September services work.
The Greenwood fire-department leadership question remains unconfirmed. This run did not find official-source text suitable for confirmed reporting, and Facebook/group material remains lead-only unless readable and independently confirmed. Ledge should ask for a named source, council record, department statement or official notice before publishing any resignation or leadership-change claim as fact.
