Does Greenwood have one? What public records show about the local cell tower and 5G
A viral Reel about 5G towers raises a local question: does Greenwood have one of these sites? Public records say Greenwood has a registered cellular macro site. The same records checked here do not show a Greenwood 5GNR or millimetre-wave small-cell site.
Short answer: yes, Greenwood has a registered TELUS cellular site at or near 279 S Government Ave. The public ISED-derived records checked list LTE and HSPA there. They do not show a Greenwood row labelled 5GNR, 5GDSS, millimetre-wave or a street-level small cell.
What the Instagram Reel actually says
The Reel from sigil369 says 5G is not just “faster internet” and points to millimetre wave, small-cell density, beamforming and radiofrequency exposure. It also says most people do not know what is going up on their block. The thumbnail shows a regular cellular tower compound, not a clearly identifiable small-cell installation.
The useful local question is narrower than the Reel’s wider warning: what does the public record show in Greenwood?
What the public tower record shows for Greenwood
The public ISED site-data extract used by BCFires’ emergency-connectivity prototype lists a Greenwood cellular site near the city centre. The Greenwood rows found in the checked extract are:

That is a macro cellular site record. It is not the same thing as a dense urban small-cell network on streetlights, and it is not a public-record finding that Greenwood has local 5GNR/mmWave equipment.
Nearby communities are different
The same regional dataset includes 5G-related records in nearby Boundary/Okanagan communities, including Midway, Grand Forks, Rock Creek, Osoyoos and Christina Lake. That matters because it prevents two opposite mistakes: saying “there is no 5G anywhere nearby,” and saying “Greenwood’s local tower is confirmed 5G.” The careful answer is in between.

How this fits Greenwood’s history
Greenwood is used to infrastructure shaping its identity. The City’s own heritage page starts the story in 1891 with a mining camp sparked by gold, silver and copper discoveries. It says Greenwood incorporated as a city in 1897 and boomed after the BC Copper Company smelter was built in 1901, becoming the “hub” of the Boundary region.
The same City page notes the post-First World War copper-price collapse, the population decline by 1940, and Greenwood’s role beginning in 1942 as British Columbia’s first Japanese Canadian internment camp. Today, the City promotes more than 60 heritage buildings and describes Greenwood as Canada’s smallest incorporated city.
The modern cell tower is not part of that early mining story, but it sits in the same long pattern: Greenwood has always had to connect a small place to larger systems — ore, rail, roads, emergency services, tourism, business, and now wireless communications.
Health and safety wording: what can and cannot be said
Health Canada’s Safety Code 6 page says the code sets recommended limits for human exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields from 3 kHz to 300 GHz, covering technologies including Wi-Fi, cell phones, smart meters and 5G. For local reporting, the practical standard is transparency: identify the actual site, the technology in the public records, the consultation/siting rules if changes are proposed, and the official exposure-standard framework.
Reader caution: do not confuse a macro LTE/HSPA tower with a millimetre-wave small cell. Do not treat comment-thread claims about Agenda 2030, Blue Beam, “lethal waves” or population-control narratives as public-record evidence.
